Phil Windley to deliver keynote address
Identity Matters: The Social and Economic Impact of Digital Identity.
JA-SIG is very pleased to announce that Phil Windley, Associate Professor of Computer Science at Brigham Young University, will be the Monday
keynote speaker at JA-SIG's upcoming Denver conference,
"JA-SIG: With Altitude"', Sunday through Wednesday, 24-27 June 2007, at the Renaissance Denver Hotel.
Abstract:
The move from an economy primarily centered on goods to one centered on services means that we conduct
fewer and fewer anonymous transactions. Most interesting services require at least pseudonymous
identifiers. In addition, society increasing feels that more identity means more security.
This has led to an explosion in the number of user names and passwords that people manage, heightened
the level of surveillance that we all endure, and made identity theft into one of the fastest growing
crimes in the last decade---to cite just a few examples. This talk will explore the social and
economic impact and problems of digital identity, including online reputation, and describe recent
developments in this fascinating area.
