JA-SIG uPortal Conference - Vancouver
Sunday, June 9 through Tuesday, June 11,
2002 at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre Hotel, Vancouver,
British Columbia.
Theme
The conference theme is "Implementing the uPortal
Framework, Channels, and Services". uPortal is a free, open-source
portal framework for higher education developed by JA-SIG and its
partners.
With the recent release of uPortal 2.0, the
conference provides a timely opportunity to hear how and why a
rapidly growing number of higher education institutions are
implementing uPortal. You will also learn the technical details
required to successfully integrate channels and services, and meet
the people who are making it work.
The conference will feature three tracks.
There is a non-technical Management track, and two technical
tracks: Implementers, and Architecture & Services.
Keynote
We are delighted that Dr. Jack McCredie,
Associate Vice-Chancellor and CIO of UC Berkeley, will give the
conference keynote. Jack is one of the leading experts in higher
education information technology and winner of the EDUCAUSE Elite
Award (1998). He will discuss technical architectures and
environments like uPortal, why they are important, and how they are
strategically linked to our institutions' academic
goals.
Join us in beautiful Vancouver, British
Columbia, Canada for the sixth semiannual Java in Administration
Special Interest Group (JA-SIG). The June JA-SIG Conference will be
held at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre Hotel, a five-star
service hotel with unparalleled ocean, city and mountain
views.
The Java in Administration Special Interest
Group (JA-SIG) is an independent organization designed to increase
the flow of information between educational institutions and
companies involved in the development of applications using Java
technology.
The JA-SIG conference goals are
to:
- Nurture communication of best practices, new technologies, and
innovative methodologies and projects related to Java
- Increase peer review, collaboration, and group discussion
related to institution-developed Java administrative
applications
- Broaden Java technology cross-fertilization between firms and
schools on both a functional and geographic basis
